Type: Parkia africana R. Br., nom. illeg. Parkia biglobosa (Jacq.) R. Br. ex G. Don (Mimosa biglobosa Jacq.) The genus is named in honour of Mungo Park (1771–1806), Scottish Surgeon and explorer in West Africa. A genus of about 40 species, pantropical; 3 species in India where 2 species are introduced and cultivated for fruits.
